Assistant Program Director, Family Medicine Residency
MercyOne Northeast Iowa – Waterloo, IA
MercyOne Northeast Iowa is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Family Medicine physician to join our team as Assistant Program Director for our long-standing, highly successful Family Medicine Residency Program in Waterloo, Iowa. For over 44 years, our program has produced outstanding Family Physicians who serve Northeast Iowa and beyond.
Position Highlights
Academic Leadership: Actively teach and mentor residents in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
Inpatient Component:
- Supervise and educate residents on the Family Medicine inpatient service, including adult medicine and newborn care (OB optional).
- Oversee resident performance and education during inpatient rotations, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care.
Outpatient Component:
- Supervise residents in continuity clinic and procedure clinic.
- Provide direct patient care in the clinic setting.
- Quality Improvement: Lead 1–2 program-wide quality improvement projects annually.
Didactics: Deliver 10–12 lectures per year on core Family Medicine topics.
Resident Advising: Serve as faculty advisor for approximately 5 residents.
Administrative Duties: Participate in program administration, curriculum development, and faculty meetings.
Schedule
Typical Weekly Structure:
4 half-days: Inpatient teaching/service
2–3 half-days: Resident clinic supervision
1 half-day: Procedure clinic
1 half-day: Protected administrative time
1 half-day: Conferences
Call:
Office call only, 1:4 rotation with nurse triage support
No hospital call required
OB: Optional, based on candidate interest
Compensation & Benefits
Starting Salary: $260,000 or commensurate with experience
Bonuses:
$40,000 starting bonus
$40,000 longevity bonus after years 1, 2, and 3
$15,000 relocation allowance
CME: $5,000 annual allowance
Malpractice: Employer-paid, including tail coverage
Insurance:
Health: Shared premium, 3 plan options
Dental & Vision: 2 plans each, employer-shared premium
Employer-paid short-term disability; optional long-term disability
Retirement: 403B & 457B options
Loan Forgiveness: Non-profit organization, qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
