Position Purpose: 

Surgical technologists are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the OR team providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work cooperatively with the circulating Registered Nurse and under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists are experts in the theory and application of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique. They combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools along with technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. A positive attitude and teamwork are essential. Exceptional customer service to patients is required. 

 

What the Surgical Technologist Will Do:  

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, infection control, and AORN standards.  

  • Pull cases from preference cards accurately and completely. 

  • Prepares room with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment 

  • Sets up for procedures. 

  • Assists the surgical team during operative procedures. 

  • Proper breakdown of sterile field after procedure. 

  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures. 

  • Restocks, maintains, and cares for equipment and supplies department wide 

  • Participates in terminal cleaning and routine equipment maintenance. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Associate's degree with completion of accredited surgical technology program 

  • Certification in Surgical Technology (CST) required from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or completion of certification within 1 year of hire date.  

  • BLS certification
