St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Financial Counselor to join our ED team!

Shift:

40hrs/wk Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with rotating weekends, weekend and holiday rotations required. Per Department needs.

Job Description Summary:

Under general supervision, is responsible for insurance verification and eligibility, assessment of patient financial requirements, counseling patients on insurance benefits and co-payments.

  • Benefit verification: Reviewing insurance plans to determine patient eligibility and coverage for upcoming treatments. 

  • Financial assistance applications: Assisting patients in completing financial aid applications and necessary paperwork to qualify for assistance programs. 

  • Payment plan creation: Setting up customized payment plans for patients with high out-of-pocket costs. 

  • Prior authorization management: Obtaining necessary prior authorizations from insurance companies for specific procedures. 

  • Debt collection follow-up: Contacting patients with outstanding balances to discuss payment options and manage collections process. 

Requirements:                                                                                    

  • HS diploma or equivalency.

  • Associate degree (Preferred).

  • Minimum 2-4yrs of related experience in insurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service.

  • National certification in HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
