The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Obstetric Emergency Department (OB ED) is a critical member of the Labor & Delivery team, providing specialized, compassionate, and timely care to pregnant and postpartum patients presenting with urgent or emergent concerns. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, the ability to prioritize rapidly changing conditions, and a commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based care in a fast-paced, high‑acuity environment. The OB ED RN collaborates closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and the broader multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and exceptional patient experience.
What you will do
The OB ED RN conducts rapid triage, performs comprehensive maternal–fetal assessments, and initiates timely interventions based on patient acuity and established protocols. Responsibilities include managing obstetric emergencies, monitoring laboring patients prior to admission, coordinating care transitions, and providing education and emotional support to patients and families. The RN also ensures accurate documentation, maintains readiness of equipment and supplies, and upholds all safety, quality, and regulatory standards within the department
