Job Summary

Responsible for developing, providing, and coordinating System wide Critical Care education, indirect patient education, orientation training programs, and development of curriculum and learning plans /options for critical care staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Masters Degree or clinical specialty certification.-AACN

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current State of Texas license/permit to practice professional nursing
  • Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support certified
  • Other certification based upon specific nursing unit requirements

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • At least five (5) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse
  • At least three (3) years of education with formal teaching experience
  • Viewed as an “expert and leader” in Critical Care specialty
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a matrix reporting structure

Principal Accountabilities

  • Acts as an educational resource at the System level and for core hospital activities. Assesses, plans, develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational needs that are appropriate to target population.
  • Works independently to develop curriculum for identified learning needs for critical care education. Facilitates and coordinates individual learning plans.
  • Promotes team approach to healthcare delivery. Facilitates and collaborates as needed, effective patient education for critical care education at the service level.
  • Develops and maintains critical care orientation programs and learning options.
  • Acts as clinical resource for staff with critical care clinical practice.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of the healthcare team.
  • Teaches safe care for patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care, within budgetary specifications, including time/supply management and accuracy of practice.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann service standards of providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and our workforce.
