Responsibilities

Oaktree is seeking an associate to work within the Global Opportunities Group for a 2-year program. Our Global Opportunities is an all-weather strategy launched in 1988 that employs a broad and flexible investment charter to seek the most attractive public and private opportunities worldwide. The strategy (previously known as Distressed Opportunities) has deep roots in distressed debt, reorganizations, and restructurings, but it has evolved over the last thirty years to include a wide-ranging set of investment activities. These include providing proprietarily originated capital solutions in structured and risk-controlled ways to borrowers with limited access to funding; buying assets in out-of-favor industries; and creating platforms with superior management teams who seek to exploit attractive undervalued, niche, and/or dislocation-driven opportunities. The strategy has also expanded its geographic footprint in recent decades to include more countries and regions with established legal systems and restructuring regimes.

The Associate will participate in all portfolio management activities including:

  • Cash management and liquidity planning
    • Manage the utilization of the ABL and subscription lines as well as the bank relationships for those facilities
    • Lead asset approval process and manage the legal and operation teams to effectuate draws and repayments
    • Monitor portfolio concentration limits and proactively help the portfolio managers to optimize returns and distributions  
    • Work with the Capital Markets team to amend the terms of the facilities to accommodate changes to the composition of the portfolio
    • Partner with the new middle office function to provide documentation necessary for asset approval and ongoing reporting
    • Help oversee daily cash and fund liability balances to improve liquidity management
    • Assist the Capital Markets team in building out an origination vehicle program

  • Reporting for all internal and external stakeholders 
  • Partner with data scientist, accounting, and middle office teams to develop a centralized Global Opps Dashboard with certified data to manage pipeline, pre-investment checks, trade execution, portfolio management and portfolio monitoring
  • Liaise with Business Development and Product Strategy partners to provide timely and transparent information to LPs
  • Develop strategies around data collection and management to facilitate reporting
  • Trial new tools and dashboards to provide feedback to Enterprise Solutions teams to ensure functionality and alignment with the objectives of the investment team
  • Drive investment team adoption of new tools and dashboards
  • Support the portfolio managers in fundraising efforts for Fund XIII

  • Financial strategy and planning 
  • Assist with fund modeling and strategic business planning to grow the business and improve profitability

  • Serving as a bridge between the investment team and the Enterprise Solutions teams
    • Develop a complete understanding of the roles and responsibilities, systems and processes across each internal functional group, and serve as a central point of contact between the Investment Team and other parties
    • Partner with investment professionals, outside and internal counsel, tax, accounting and compliance professionals to ensure good cross-functional communication and coordination throughout the investing process
    • Work with Technology to develop and provide the investment team with access to AI tools to help improve the performance and efficiency of the business


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience as an analyst/associate with a top investment bank within capital markets or investment banking or private credit
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized and able to adapt to variable deadlines

Education

A Bachelor’s degree with honors from a top university or college is required.

Base Salary Range

$150,000 - $160,000

In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives, a comprehensive benefits package and a flexible work arrangement.  The base salary offered will be commensurate with experience and/or qualifications, industry knowledge and expertise, as well as prior training and education.
