Overview

The Supervisor- Police Operations supervises, supports, administers, and coordinates general police operations for the department. Participates in fiscal management and the development of the operating budget to support services and general functions.

Essential Functions

1 Supervises, monitors, supports, and facilitates the operations and administrative activities for the police department; monitors personnel, customer services, general administration, and overall operational efficiency.

2 Trains, develops, motivates, and evaluates personnel performing and supporting work in recruitment, benefits administration, training, employee relations, customer service, and law enforcement support.

3 Researches and develops responses to inquiries and concerns from external agencies and departments; conducts and participates in special projects and ensures transparency in police operations.

4 Researches and analyzes data to obtain information for formulating projects, plans, surveys, reports, strategies, forecasts, and trends; assists in the maintenance of systems and software to support activities and operations.

5 Participates in the development and implementation of budgets; tracks and monitors expenditures and other costs related to police and law enforcement activities and services including operational efficiency.

6 Interprets, develops, implements, and provides advice, counsel, and guidance regarding policies and procedures impacting operations and activities.

7 Prepares financial and operational analysis to support decision making.

8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures.

2 Knowledge of City policies and procedures

3 Knowledge of customer service and collaboration.

4 Knowledge of police operations and general administration.

5 Knowledge of police department practices.

6 Ability to perform a wide range of operational oversight functions in support of the department.

7 Ability to effectively manages, facilitate, and coach employees and management through complex and difficult issues.

8 Ability to identify problems, make recommendations to resolve, and influence decision making.

9 Ability to set high personal goals and work independently.

10 Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

11 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor's degree in business/public administration or other law enforcement field. 

EXPERIENCE:  

  • Two years of experience in law enforcement administration, public administration, or other related work.

AND

  •  Two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.)

EQUIVALENCIES:

  • High school diploma or GED plus six (6) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

  • An associate degree in any field plus four (4) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a non-specified field plus four (4) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

  • A master’s degree or higher in a specified field including two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to obtain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification. 

  • Must pass an intensive background investigation and drug test.

  • No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.

  • No Class B MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last ten (10) years.

  • No family violence convictions.

  • Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any FELONY, Class A, or Class B MISDEMEANOR.



Salary Range

 

$57,087.47 - $67,765.23


 

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
