Overview
The Crew Leader-Water Utility provides lead level worker assistance and direction for a large crew or number of crews performing maintenance and general tasks for the water and wastewater mains and facilities.
Essential Functions
1 Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crewmembers or other lower level crew leaders performing maintenance work for the Dallas Water Utility; oversees lower level employees and crew leaders to ensure that all maintenance is completed in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to safety compliance standards and department protocols and procedures.
2 Provides, performs, and conducts consistent on-site job and safety training to ensure compliance with regulatory standards; explains, communicates, and demonstrates proper, safe, and efficient work methods.
3 Drives around the City evaluating and checking maintenance work being performed; provides lead level expertise to solve problems and address issues and challenging water system maintenance situations; obtains parts and inventory and ensures all crews are outfitted with necessary parts and equipment.
4 Inspects, reviews, and evaluates pumping facility equipment including oil levels, valve position, switch gear instruments, annunciator panel, and pump drains; checks for cleanliness of tools and equipment and monitors clean up activities following work orders.
5 Leads the testing, maintenance, and care of large industrial, commercial, and customer city water meters by performing facilitating and overseeing preventative maintenance activities; handles citizen and customer complaints and concerns.
6 Gathers, compiles, prepares, and drafts daily paperwork; produces various reports on meters and water system, daily maintenance activity and individual work orders or requests.
7 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of Water and Wastewater systems and general equipment and meters.
2 Knowledge, use, and care of hand and power tools.
3 Knowledge of water and wastewater mains and facilities.
4 Ability to read and work with building blueprints and electrical schematics.
5 Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions and read charts and maintain written records.
6 Ability to receive and transmit to crewmembers oral and written instructions.
7 Ability to perform math calculations.
8 Ability to perform a variety of manual labor for extended periods.
9 Ability to lift and work with heavy equipment.
10 Ability to maintain record keeping or work log system.
11 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
12 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience working with variety of machines and equipment in a large municipality or complex infrastructure, performing general labor in various trades is required. Experience in supervising or leading a crew is highly preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Commercial Driver’s License Class A with good driving record for Forestry, Code Compliance, Parks, Public Works, Traffic Signals, Water Distribution, Water Quality and DWU Stormwater.
Class B Driver’s License with good driving record for Facilities, Landscape, Maintenance, Wastewater Collection and Sanitation.
Movement Area Certification for Aviation is required.
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) License for DWU may be required.
Other leadership certifications or endorsements highly preferred.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Subject to working in inclement weather conditions.
Applicants with a Class A or B CDL issued by a state other than Texas, must obtain a Texas State Class A or B CDL within the probationary period.
Supervisory or lead work experience preferred.
EQUIVALENCY
Six (6) years of relevant experience and ten (10) years of combined education will fulfill the education and experience requirement.
For the divisions with the Commercial Driver License A requirement, in the absence of the CDL A, applicants with the CDL B will be considered with a condition to obtain CDL A within the probationary period.
Salary Range
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
