This position works under supervision to perform legal work requiring specialization in trial, prosecution, criminal law, or other types of legal work. Work is reviewed by higher level attorneys.

Assistant City Attorney
Dallas City Attorney’s Office – Employment


The Dallas City Attorney's Office is seeking an energetic, self-motivated attorney to fill a full-time position in the Employment Section of the Litigation Division. Applicants must be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and should have a minimum of 3-5 years of litigation experience. Litigation experience and/or experience with employment law is preferred.
 

The position primarily involves defending and litigating employment cases based on Title VII, 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and other civil rights and employment statutes, representing city departments on a range of employment-related legal issues, and representing city departments in administrative hearings. In addition to conducting discovery, appearing in court, and trying and mediating cases, the position involves a heavy motion practice, which requires excellent research and writing skills. The position also involves providing legal advice and training in employment-related matters. This position requires an understanding of employment laws, trial experience, and strong skills in litigation, motion practice, negotiation, writing, and mediation process. The successful candidate will also be responsible for briefing and arguing, if necessary, employment litigation appeals in collaboration with the Appellate Section. The successful candidate will also be assigned to handle responses to discovery requests in civil and criminal cases to which the city is not a party. Other duties may be assigned.
 

Salary is commensurate with experience. The city's comprehensive benefits package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter. Salary Range

 

$70,080.75 - $87,600.93


 

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
