The IMF’s Institute for Capacity Development (ICD) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Research Analyst in the General Macro & Fiscal Division (ICD-MF). The Division provides training and technical assistance in macroeconomic forecasting, modeling, and public debt analysis.

Among the main tasks, the Research Analyst will:

  • Support economists in creating, maintaining, and improving macroeconomic frameworks and models, updating databases and macroframework documentation.
  • Contribute to development of an internal software package for macroframeworks and other related tools, by providing feedback, ideas, debugging, and collecting feedback from other uses.
  • Closely cooperate with the IT team and developers. Update documentation of the software if needed, participate in agile software sprints by working out user stories and request for the development team.
  • Help the IMF’s area teams in onboarding and using the newly developed macroframeworks and economic models, converting databases to a new system, help with data cleanup and transformations.
  • Help with linking economic models to the internal macroframework software, usually in Matlab or in Python, using basic scripting techniques and solution tools (e.g. Dynare).

The selected candidate should be prepared to take up the position in Washington, D.C. in November-December 2025. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year with the possibility of extension contingent on performance and ongoing budget/business needs.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have: (i) a degree in Economics or related quantitative field ; (ii)  excellent data management and analytical skills, ability to write scripts in data science tools like Python, R, or Matlab; (iv) experience and strong interest in macroeconomic modelling and forecasting, including in using relevant software; (v) strong spoken and written communication in English; and (vi) exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills, as well as the ability to work well independently and in teams.
