The Role: 

The Marketing Specialist plays a critical role in enhancing the success of Frontiers journals and our brand's digital presence. This position is responsible for the full-cycle journal marketing strategy and execution including assisting in the development and execution of marketing strategies that support business objectives, with the core goal of increasing the visibility of Frontiers' journals and building brand awareness. A key function is to empower and collaborate with journal teams by providing localized marketing collaterals and strategic guidance to effectively promote their journals and the research we publish. The specialist will ensure a strong, localized presence that resonates with the Chinese research community, ultimately attracting high-quality submissions and maximizing journal success. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, data-driven marketing strategy tailored for the Chinese academic landscape, aligning with Frontiers' global objectives and open-access mission. 

  • Drive lead generation and submission attraction through targeted, full-cycle marketing campaigns for journals and Frontiers Research Topics. 

  • Manage and optimize digital marketing channels including SEO (e.g., Baidu, Bing), email, and social media (WeChat, Weibo, etc.) to maximize journal promotion and visibility. 

  • Lead the localization of all marketing campaigns and collaterals, ensuring maximum resonance with Chinese authors and readers. 

  • Empower Journal Teams and Editors by providing localized marketing toolkits, collaterals, training, and strategic support for their own promotional efforts. 

  • Coordinate event participation in major academic conferences and webinars in China, managing promotional materials and engaging with the local research community. 

  • Track, analyze, and report on the performance of all China-focused marketing activities, providing actionable, evidence-based insights to optimize strategy and budget. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience that will help you thrive in the role: 

  • 2-5 years’ experience in digital marketing or full-cycle product/journal marketing, especially in lead generation and content creation, with a proven track record of success in the Chinese market. Skilled in using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and marketing automation (e.g., Marketing Cloud).  

  • Deep understanding of the China digital ecosystem, including hands-on experience managing campaigns and content with major social media platforms like WeChat, Baidu, etc. Proficiency in SEO, email marketing, and event organization is highly desirable. 

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable marketing strategies and performance reports. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese.  

  • Creative, collaborative, and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple campaigns and stakeholders simultaneously in a fast-paced, global environment. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field. Experience in academic publishing or EdTech is a plus.
