Overview

The Lead Custodian performs routine cleaning and leads, coordinates, and inspects the activities of custodial personnel to ensure facilities and buildings are cleaned properly and effective cost containment measures are employed.

Essential Functions

1 Leads, coordinates, performs and assigns the activities of custodial personnel and contract personnel; coordinates personnel and equipment needed for installation, set-up or breakdown of various events and/or special programs to provide efficient service and ensure work is completed on schedule.

2 Inspects and monitors routine work of City custodial employees and contract custodial services engaged in building and facilities care; ensures work is performed as specified in contracts or in accordance with City job standards; checks, assigns, and completes work orders and related documentation.

3 Transports equipment and supplies to work sites to supply crews with necessary equipment to perform the assigned work; washes, cleans, and performs general care on City vehicles; occasionally drives City vehicles to make deliveries.

4 Prepares work orders, tabulation reports, and building inspection forms to maintain accurate records of work done, monies collected, and inspections conducted.

5 Conducts on-the-job training and safety meetings to train custodial personnel in proper cleaning techniques; discusses contract employees' performance and problems with contractors.

6 Checks and inspects areas for hazards and spills to ensure a safe, clean environment; maintains grounds around building by trimming, mowing, and edging.

7 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 General mechanical knowledge and aptitude necessary to perform a variety of routine cleaning and custodial tasks.

2 Ability to inspect custodial work, resolve issues, and document work orders.

3 Ability to oversee and lead custodial and contract personnel.

4 Ability to use hand/power cleaning tools and equipment.

5 Ability to perform manual labor.

6 Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

7 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: 

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year of custodial work

LICENSE:

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Subject to work various shifts including nights, weekends and holiday

  • Requires continuous standing, walking and bending.

  • Must be able to obtain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification

  • No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.

  • No class B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years.

  • No family violence convictions.

  • Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A misdemeanor or class B misdemeanor charge.



Salary Range

 

$21.50 - $22.33
