Shift/Schedule Requirements: Ability to work various shifts and days including nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.

 

The Area Manager of Human Resources will maintain effective relations by providing day to day advice and direction to employees and supervision on employee relations issues, including workplace accommodations. This position is also responsible for assisting the Manager of Employee Relations with associate investigations and ensures proper documentation in accordance with federal, state, and local laws for 6,000+ associates at Cedar Point. This position also advises management regarding policy interpretation and approves disciplinary action on behalf of the company in a manner consistent with Company policies, Cornerstones, Core Values, and all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice and counsel to management regarding the use of progressive discipline, performance improvement plans, and various other employment actions, including decisions regarding unpaid administrative leave and involuntary terminations, as applicable, for violation of policies, procedures, and/or practices while mitigating employer liability and ensuring legal compliance across federal, state and local employment laws. 
  • Ensures all employee personnel actions are properly documented including investigations, discipline, and terminations.
  • Helps to conducts investigations and responds to employee complaints of harassment, discrimination, or unfair treatment, providing corrective action and resolution as appropriate.  Determines appropriate levels of disciplinary action based on circumstances of the infraction, employee's disciplinary history, documentation provided by management, Company policy and procedures, past practice, and legal guidelines.
  • Assist with and documents interactive accommodations process in accordance with federal, state, and local laws to determine need for accommodation; ensure complete and sufficient documentation to support medical, religious, or other reasonable accommodations for employment and/or associate housing.
  • Assist in the reviews and processes Job Performance Evaluations; Ethics Points, rehire eligibility, employee termination; Change of Status forms including data entry; prepares daily activity log and weekly reports; and coordinates and conducts review of personnel files requested by employees, former employees, and government agencies.
  • Assists with administration, review and distribution of performance evaluations and goals for exempt and non-exempt associates.
  • Promotes teamwork and maintains a good working relationship with other departments.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Six Flags and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of the employment life cycle.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Human Resources Management or Business Administration.
  • PHR / SPHR or SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Demonstrated work related experience in a role with an emphasis on employee training and employee relations. Preferably 3+ years.
  • 1-3 years experience directly supervising employees.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment on multiple projects with associates across all levels and departemtns of the organization, including labor relations. 
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods on a regular basis.
  • Proficient in MS Suite based environment and HRIS software.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by State, Federal or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
