Overview
Under the general supervision of the Sr. Director or designee, the Building Automation Technician Assistant supports and aids in the safe, reliable and economical operation of the building automation systems. The ideal candidate possesses a strong base knowledge of HVAC building systems and equipment. Must be motivated to improve their skills and knowledge needed to install, maintain, and repair all components of the HVAC and lighting control systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide support with preventative maintenance and diagnostics on building automation systems and components in both critical and non-critical environments.
- In collaboration with Automation Technicians, perform system checkout and assist in automation systems startups.
- Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairs to complex electronic HVAC and lighting control systems.
- Participate in job site review, asset tagging, documentation, and final completion for systems turnover.
- Provide support with wiring checkout and automation start-ups using provided software and tools.
- Use technical manuals, drawings, sketches, service manuals and/or similar documents to resolve issues.
- Must be able to use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work assignments and or performing tasks and recording time and work completion.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks, documents time and material consumed in performance of this work.
- While in the performance of routine duties; may be required, as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification, where the work or task does not require a specific license.
- Conform to codes, rules, regulations and safety standards associated with the trade.
- Assists in in spare parts inventory and anticipates future needs.
- Attending all required training.
- Perform other duties, as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Trade school diploma, or equivalent experience
- 2 years’ experience with heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC), maintenance and operation, automatic & pneumatic controls (DDC), laws and accepted procedures of building utilities operations, technical sketches, flow diagrams, and performance graphs.
- Able to prepare reports and present facts clearly; orally and written.
- Ability to operate all test equipment associated with maintenance and operation of building systems.
- Basic understanding of the operation of HVAC controls and HVAC equipment. This includes the ability to understand written sequences of operation.
- Effective communication skills – verbal and written
- Ability to utilize electronic devices, such as an iPad.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to off-site locations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Siemens Desigo and Automated Logic Web Control.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers
Additional Information
- May perform work in all Medical Center facilities and is subject to possible exposure to chemicals, gases, electrical shock
- Ability to perform physically arduous tasks
- Normal dexterity, visual acuity, ability to lift up to 50 lbs., ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding, and work in confined areas
- Must be able to pass respirator fit test and comply with requirements when working in designated areas
