Overview

Utilizing knowledge of office systems and under general supervision, he/she performs various responsible clerical tasks, processing of fluids, data entry and other general clerical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Answer telephone, screen and take messages. 
  • Sort and file all necessary reports.
  • Pick up and deliver reports and/or supplies.
  • Attend in-service and other job related meetings as required.
  • Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of department equipment, immediate work area, and supplies.
  • Retrieves samples from labs and sorts them in refrigerator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Six (6) months to one (1) year in hospital laboratory operations preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good accuracy required.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Able to operate office equipment, fax, copier, etc. 
  • Basic ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
