Overview

 

This cohort of Cone's NA I Program will consist of 10 internal candidates. To qualify, candidates must be in good standing with the organization and free of any active corrective action.

 

This comprehensive, 3-month training program includes classroom instruction, hands-on clinical experience, and preparation for the North Carolina NA I state exam. Upon successful completion of the course and passing the state exam, participants will commit to serving as a Nursing Technician in an inpatient department for a minimum of one year. This course is focused on fueling our future and supporting an internal pathway to entry level healthcare.

 

Key highlights of the program include:

  • Training and financial support while obtaining NC CNA licensure!
  • Direct connection to a hiring unit, which will provide support throughout the program and offer a position upon successful completion
  • During the months of the NA I Program, participants will continue working in their current department in a part time / 0.5 FTE capacity and will also participate in the NA I Program in a 0.5 FTE capacity. (Total weekly hours = 40 hours per week) 
  • Compensation for hours spent the NA I Program could differ from the participant's hourly rate in their current role. Pay rate for the NA I Program and beyond is $17 / hour
  • Provision of essential supplies including: uniforms, stethoscope, and watch

Candidates will be selected through a collaborative interview process conducted by unit hiring leaders and the Interprofessional Nursing team.

Responsibilities

 

Upon completion of the program, and after passing all required testing to obtain the CNA certification, participants will transition into a Full Time Nursing Tech I role within Cone Health (must commit to the designated unit for a minimum of one year).

 

The Nursing Tech I role:

 

Supports patients with daily living tasks, including meals, personal care, and progressive mobility in order to support the recovery and plan of care.Assesses patients' quality of life related to nutrition, hydration, and elimination in order to distribute resources and anticipate patient needs.Admits, transfers, and discharges patients in order to move them to the appropriate locations in line with the plan of care.Assists with clinical procedures, including monitoring blood glucose, recording vital signs, obtaining EKG's, applying restraints, and attending to elimination needs to provide comfortable care for patients.Helps to maintain unit inventories of supplies and medical equipment in order to ensure a clean and safe environment in adherence to the National Patient Safety Goals.Checks that fall-risk patients have the appropriate arm bands, socks, and signage to ensure physical safety.Helps document all clinical procedures, patient interactions, and medication use to maintain a detailed patient history.Responds promptly to delegation from registered nurse staff and shares patient observations to ensure efficient collaboration.Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Requirements to work as a Nursing Tech I (in addition to requirements listed above):

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required: Certification required by State of North Carolina DHHR. Nurse Aide Certification required. BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
