Overview

Department 374 is responsible for revising and improving the current Fast Attack Submarine design as well as developing future submarine concepts to increase submarine relevancy and escalate the US Navy’s global undersea dominance during a time of accelerating technological advancements.  

The D374 Engineering Supervisor will lead a team of approximately 10 engineering  to advance submarine design and provide engineering support for the detailed design, analysis, procurement, operational and shock qualification, ship integration, material procurement support, and test and life cycle of VIRGINIA Class and SSN(X) build-to-print mechanical components and systems.  Mechanical components and systems in D374 cognizance include weapons handling, weapons launch, retractable masts, hydraulic components/cylinders, steering & diving systems, ship hatches and doors, escape and rescue, towed systems, valves, manual remote operators and other special studies.

  • Supporting and resolving issues with material procurement and provide support and oversight of suppliers building components on Mechanical build-to-print design disclosures
  • Maintaining the cost and schedule performance of their products

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Marine, Nuclear, Structural or systems engineering
  • 5+ years experience in Mechanical, Nuclear, structural or Systems Engineering

Preferred:

  • Experience working with Electric Boat D453 Mechanical Design with developing design disclosures using the current IPDE tools and processes is desired.
  • Understanding of the Electric Boat Mechanical process for developing build-to-print design disclosures is desired.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and components
  • Experience implementing design changes in electro-mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of the Earned Value Management System
