Job Summary and Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for technical, clerical, and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation, distribution and delivery of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician must demonstrate competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Other duties within scope of practice as assigned by supervising pharmacist. The technician may be required to work at another GSSA facility.

Job Requirements

  • One (1) year of acute care hospital pharmacy practice experience or a 6 week pharmacy technician externship at the hiring facility.
  • Five (5) years of recent Retail Pharmacy experience processing TARsand PAs (within the last three (3) years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legal restrictions on the activities of non-licensed personnel in a hospital pharmacy, medical abbreviations, pharmaceutical terminology and calculations, and generic/trade names of medications. Experience in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic/hazardous medications.
  • Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy (Pharmtech, CA) as a registered technician.

 

PREFERRED:

  • Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician program is preferred.
  • Experience working in a USP 797 clean room is preferable.
  • Experience in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic/hazardous medications
  • Certified Pharmacy Tech PTCB, ECPT, NCCT
