The Simulation and Advanced Skills Center (SASC) is dedicated to advancing patient safety and quality of care by providing a safe, controlled environment where healthcare professionals and students can develop and refine their clinical skills. Through hands-on training in realistic scenarios, participants enhance their procedural knowledge and decision-making abilities using a range of simulation modalities, including high-fidelity manikins, virtual reality and standardized patients. As a Simulation Operations Specialist, you will support the use of simulation in multidisciplinary healthcare settings by preparing and maintaining lab equipment and materials such as patient simulators, computers and audiovisual systems to ensure optimal functionality and efficiency.

Our GME Skills Lab supports the residency programs at South Pointe, where this position serves as the primary caregiver responsible for daily operations, planning and executing simulation activities essential to advancing clinical education.

A caregiver in this role works days from 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Program software to model simulator's physiological response to instructor specifications. 

  • Operate patient simulators for the duration of simulations. 

  • Assist in training faculty in the use of simulation equipment. 

  • Collaborate in maintenance and repair by troubleshooting immediate issues with simulation equipment and all other equipment used in relation to the simulations. 

  • Set up and tear down rooms in preparation for various simulations. 

  • Work closely with department managers and education specialists in coordinating simulations. 

  • Work closely with department manager in maintaining inventory of all equipment and supplies related to simulation. 

  • Provide recommendations on equipment, supplies and materials. 

  • Operate and maintain audio/visual equipment as needed. 

  • Set up and tear down labs utilizing cadavers for Orthopaedic procedures.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate’s Degree and one year of experience in a healthcare setting

  • OR two years of healthcare simulation experience and one year of experience in a healthcare setting

  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Nursing or a related field 

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle

  • Knowledge in technology (technology oriented)

  • Ability to learn common surgical procedures/instruments

  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Simulation experience 

  • Comfortable with handling cadavers

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information 

  • Ability to move up to 85 pounds with assistance

  • Ability to work on overhead equipment

  • Ability to work in confined, darkened areas.

Personal Protective Equipment:
