As a Patient Transporter, you play an essential role in helping patients receive the care they need. You will provide transportation to and from various areas throughout the hospital, ensuring patients feel comfortable throughout the process. This position offers a unique way to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and innovative healthcare setting, all while making a difference in the lives of both patients and fellow caregivers.
A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas using wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment.
Transfer patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
Transport patients during discharge to the hospital lobby.
Ensure proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients.
Approach and aid patients and visitors.
Verify and confirm standard precautions and correct patient identification by comparing information from the pager and patient wristband to obtain the correct medical chart and verify proper mode of transportation.
Disinfect and maintain equipment.
Perform environmental and safety checks, identify malfunctioning equipment, document findings and report on malfunctioning equipment.
Move and deliver equipment and linen carts.
Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures, patient and safety emergency procedures and proper body mechanics to safely move patients.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Three months on-the-job training and orientation to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures and patient emergency and safety procedures, proper body mechanics necessary to safely move patients
