About the Role: S&P Global Ratings is seeking a Director & Lead Analyst to join our North America Corporate Ratings Department. This position is responsible for primary analytical coverage of a moderately sized portfolio of higher profile or complex companies, as well as analytical oversight across a broader portfolio (pod) of credits followed by other primary and support analysts. A key aspect of this role also includes active involvement in the external relationship management with companies across the pod. The sector team for this role is to be determined, due to potential rotations in the department in conjunction with this process. North America Corporate ratings is the largest ratings practice by business volume with approximately 200 employees across North America.  Analytical team members work on a diverse range of transactions applying different ratings criteria, predominantly for corporate debt issuers. We also work on transactions in partnership with other practices on a regular basis. Effective teamwork and a thoughtful approach to problem solving are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities and Impact: You will report to the Analytical Manager of the sector team and collaborate with the Sector Lead and other Lead Analysts across the team and department to ensure timely and consistent application of our criteria and execution of surveillance.

In this role, you will establish and maintain relationships with issuers, intermediaries, and investors. Your ability to confidently and knowledgably respond to analytical questions, as well as to credibly and consistently represent S&P in management meetings and in the media will have a significant impact on the organization as a whole. More specifically, you will:

  • Act as Primary Analyst on a moderately sized list of higher profile or complex credits

  • Provide analytical oversight across a broader portfolio of credits, ensuring a consistently high level of analytic quality

  • Chair credit committees; review, critique, and provide feedback on analysis and publishing

  • Provide analytical training and coaching to junior analysts

  • Create and leverage internal partnerships, especially with primary analysts across your sector

  • In coordination with the Analytical Manager and Sector Lead, communicate S&P thought leadership and credit themes via publications, speeches, conference presentations, and media interviews

  • Encourage an innovative mindset and technological awareness within your pod

  • Contribute to projects that build our analytic capabilities and the robustness of our analytic process

  • Collaborate across sectors, regions, and practices to ensure analytic consistency

  • Contribute to our success as a learning organization through self-development, teamwork, recruiting, and talent retention.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (Only applicable to U.S. candidates)

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $172,000 to $240,000. The final base salary will depend on geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree 

  • 7-10 years in financial services (11-14 years without an advanced degree)

  • Demonstrated expertise in credit analysis with deep understanding of corporate finance principles

  • In-depth understanding of S&P policies and procedures

  • Proven ability to ensure adherence to analytical guidelines, quality standards, and established procedures across multiple credits

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational management skills  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or equivalent recognized designation)

Hybrid Work Requirements: All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week.

Interview Requirements: We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
