Job Summary:

Performs complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of the Maternal Fetal Medicine physician for diagnosis and treatment of high-risk OB patients.  Prepares and directs patients for examinations.  Performs OB diagnostic procedures to ensure the delivery of quality care.  Participates in quality control procedures.  Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.  Maintains confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned.  The technologist is to provide very good service; that is to treat every patient with respect, courtesy and explain the exam to the patient. The technologist must be able to work together with others providing a positive work environment. The technologist is responsible to provide a clean and safe environment for the patients, fellow employees and themselves.   Maintains professional development and education.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines

Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all OB patients based on demonstrated needs. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
May be scheduled as needed including overtime.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Ultrasound Technology (Required)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1-2 years MFM scanning experience (Required)
  • 3-4 years OBGYN scanning experience (Required)
  • 0-1 year Genetic screening and fetal echo scanning experience (Preferred)

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) (Required)
  • Registered in OB/GYN from ARDMS (Required)
  • Nuchal Translucency certification (preferred)
  • Fetal Echo eligibility (preferred)
