Overview
Responsible for the clerical, financial counseling, registration, medical records and receptionist functions of the Dental clinic.
Responsibilities
- Performs patient intake, registration, appointment scheduling, medical chart retrieval, record filing and maintenance, and insurance verification utilizing computer system.
- Determines fees and eligibility based on guidelines and established fee schedules, works with patients and family to determine payment arrangements collects fees, verifies and updates fees, handles Managed Care referrals based on program.
- Issues new Medicaid Record numbers and medical records charts as necessary and follows-up on Medicaid applications pending approval, follows up on cases returned for additional information/documentation.
- Closes out clinic visits based on encounter sheet data, abstracts and enters data for billing and reporting requirements as assigned, retrieves, maintains, and returns medical records and X-Ray files as requested and assigned.
- Tracks all medical records coming to and from clinics utilizing computer tracking system, prepares charts for upcoming clinic sessions, reconciles charts received against appointment schedule, date stamp and identify all necessary paperwork.
- Forwards completed charts to appropriate clinic or other designed destinations, notifies supervisor when problems arise.
- Meets, greets and directs patients, families and phone calls to appropriate staff, generates an encounter from and clinic card for each patient visit and forwards charts to appropriate areas.
- Maintains clerical records for department (i.e., lab tests, chart requests appointment, cancellation and rescheduling letters as necessary, maintains clinic supplies.
- Maintains statistics and participates in analytical/patient care/data gathering studies as needed, approves and expedites transportation reimbursement requests.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of a medical billing program highly preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basis computer knowledge required.
- Experience with medical billing software preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and bending.
- May include some repetitive motions.
