The Job in a Nutshell:
This position is responsible for managing both the Colorado and Evans (CE) store and the SMART (Store Manager Accelerate Readiness Training) Training program. They are also responsible for coordinating with the Training Hub team to provide real world management, operational, and customer experience at a real functioning store. The SMART Program Training Store Manager 2 is responsible for Crew management and leadership and the overall operational success and profitability of the Colorado and Evans store. This includes training, directing, and leading all CE store Crew to ensure that the Crew and customer experience are managed according to company expectations. The SMART Program Training Store Manager 2 reports directly to the SMART Program Training Store Manager 1 and will partner with the Director of Training, Operations Leadership, and the SMART Program Training Store Manager 1 on management of the Colorado and Evans (CE) store and the SMART Program.
The main objective of the SMART program is to provide an immersive training program for high potential internal Department Managers and high potential external hires, to train them to become Natural Grocers’ Store Managers following program graduation. The SMART Program Training Store Manager 2 will partner with the SMART Program Training Store Manager 1 on hiring, training, and mentoring the SMART trainees. The position must ensure that the Colorado and Evans Crew and customers experience a well-run store as the SMART trainees gain leadership and operational experience.

Colorado and Evans Store Management:Ensure the store provides an exceptional customer experience by managing great stock on hand, fresh quality product, a clean and welcoming store, and best in class world class customer service (WCCS).Manage successful store operations by managing to the 3 pillars of successful leadership (Set Crew up for Success, Wow customers, Run a Financially Successful Store).Set Crew up for Success by:Hiring all required store positions and ensure effective training is provided.Providing professional, appropriate, and effective leadership to all Crew while motivating them toward high performance in their work.Demonstrating the highest level of respect and integrity in day-to-day actions and interactions with Crew, customers, vendors, and any other outside contacts.Effectively communicating with store Crew daily and utilizing provided company tools to assist.Ensuring Crew are compliant with all state and/or county food safety certifications and registrations.Maintaining master, weekly, and daily schedules and posting them as per company policyManaging all performance and/or disciplinary issues in accordance to company policy and with the assistance of Human Resources. Effectively managing all store facilities issues and communicate the needs of the store to the SSC (Store Support Center)Wow customers by:Ensuring all Crew are greeting all customers and providing best in class WCCSManaging great stock on hand to support sales growthEnsuring all department operational tasks are being completed daily, weekly, monthly, etc. to company expectationHaving well trained Crew scheduled at the appropriate times to ensure business needs are metSuccessfully plan and execute all company sales initiatives and promotions - Run a financially successful store by:
- Ensuring positive comparable sales growth year over year
- Growth in average ticket, customer count, and {N}power member sign ups
- Management of controllable costs such as labor, shrink, and inventory as per company expectation
- Analyzing metrics by utilizing company tools such as MMR (Monthly Managers Report) etc.
Manage all other tasks and/or duties that will ensure the store has successful day-to-day operations and overall financial success.
SMART Trainee Management: Hire, manage and train the SMART traineesTrain company expectations and the “why” behind policy and proceduresTrain how to manage and lead CrewManaging in the moment, which includes redirecting and praising as appropriateEnsuring trainees understand all policies and procedures and how to uphold and apply them - Train SMART trainees on company tools & resources, ensuring trainees understand the purpose of these tools so they can utilize them most effectively
Train SMART trainees on the 3 pillars of leadership and how to effectively execute them Regularly evaluate SMART trainee progress and provide regular feedback to both the SMART trainees Provide regular progress reports regarding SMART trainees to the Director of Training - Assign each individual SMART trainee to manage the CE store per program parameters
- It is the responsibility of the position to ensure that the store is run to company expectations during these periods while ensuring the individual SMART trainee is truly responsible for all store management responsibilities. This means that this position will have to assess if they will have to step in to ensure a positive customer and Crew experience.
Partner with Director of Training and SMART Program Training Store Manager 1 to manage program scheduling As part of the hiring process, occasional travel is required to observe internal SMART trainee candidates Partner with the Director of Training and SMART Program Training Store Manager 1 to establish an after-graduation program for continued mentoring of the SMART graduates
Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent Minimum 3 years of store management or multi-unit management experience A champion of the Natural Grocers’ Crew and customer experiences, who is passionate about our company’s mission and wants to cultivate the career of others who share in that passion Excellent communication skills at all levels of the organization Ability to effectively deliver feedback in a live store environment Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills Highly motivated and a track record of success in a leadership position Advanced understanding of and adherence to Natural Grocers policies and procedures Able to manage changing priorities Possesses a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks Possesses excellent internal and external customer service skills Is highly organized with great attention to detail Ability to stay focused with the task at hand Ability to give direction and follow through with Crew Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
