Summary

Responsible for planning, educating, coordinating, and controlling the activities of all admitting, registration, financial counseling, training and scheduling functions within the Medical Center. Primarily concerned with obtaining accurate, complete, and consistent demographic, financial, and clinical data during all registration processes, following up on all scheduled visits. Managing the authorization and pre-certification process for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Major Job Functions
  • The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.  In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

    • Plans, educates, organizes, coordinates, and controls all registration activities

    • Maintains all Patient Access policies and procedures

    • Maintains all job descriptions and standards for all registration personnel

    • Implements and controls registration procedures

    • Coordinates and works closely with nursing and medical staffing to accommodate and keep them informed of all Patient Access requirements and needs

    • Coordinates and works closely with the Directors of Medical Records and Patient Accounts to ensure that their needs are met

    • Ensures accurate completion of medical and financial forms related to the preadmission, admitting, registration, financial counseling and scheduling process

    • Recruits new personnel and evaluates all personnel in the department

    • Ensures that the Director of Patient Financial Services is informed on the status of the admitting, financial counseling and scheduling operations

    • Cross trains staff across departments to ensure most effective use of labor

    • Monitors times and schedules of staff so that efficiency is optimized

    • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

    Education and Formal Training

    • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field is required

    Work Experience

    • 4 years Patient Access experience required

    • 2 years supervisory experience required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

    • Ability to plan, direct, and control Patient Access functions

    • Good command of medical terminology

    • Problem solving abilities

    • PC experience, including Microsoft Office and Windows

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively with patients, doctors, and other departments in the institution
