Overview

Hiring Range:  $28.78/hr.- $38.55/hr.

Starting salary may be adjusted depending on experience.

Qualifications

1. Associate's Degree or higher in Engineering, Building Science or a related field AND three (3) years or more of experience as a Building Inspector, Engineer, Architect, Superintendent or Foreman involved in construction, or any combination of these;

                                                                            OR

High School Diploma/GED AND seven (7) years or more of experience as a Building Inspector, Engineer, Architect, Superintendent or Foreman involved in construction, or any combination of these;

 

2. Current certification as either a commercial or a residential Building Inspector by the International Code Council (ICC) or certification must be obtained within one (1) year from the date of hire.

 

3. Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience working with all phases of construction to include residential  and commercial.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the inspection of construction sites and projects to ensure compliance with City ordinances, specifications, building codes and reviewed plans;
  • Reviews, Alteration and repairs, structural safety and conformity to established code requirements and submitted plans and specifications, for both residential and commercial structures
  • Deals with contractors and the public on matters or corrections in order to comply with regulations, notifies contractors of any violations and takes appropriate action to ensure violations are corrected;
  • Prepares daily inspection reports, drawings and design, keeps records, checks for possession of permits and licenses;
  • Deals with contractors and the public on matters relating to building regulations
  • Answers zoning and code questions;
  • Performs final inspections of construction projects to assure overall conformity to code requirements;
  • Attend classes, seminars and conferences to remain current on code changes and other applications as they occur;
  • Performs related work as required.
