Responsibilities

  • The Surgical First Assistant contributes to expected patient outcomes in accordance with policies, procedures, established standards, and administrative policies.
  • Assist the surgeon by providing visualization or the surgical site through retraction of tissue and sponging, assisting with achieving homeostasis and suturing of body planes. 
  • Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment and assemble sterile tables as needed for the procedure. 
  • Communicates sterility status and concerns to the procedural team.
  • Assist the surgical team with safe patient positioning and transferring. 

Qualifications

Job Requirements: 

  • Graduate of an accredited Certified Surgical First Assistant program 
  • Certified Surgical First Assistant at time of hire 
  • BLS certification is required within 14 days of hire or transfer and prior to providing direct patient care. 

Preferred Job Requirements: 

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Surgical First Assistant
