Job Description

The Senior Vice President, Legal Operations will be based in India and serve as the senior offshore leader for legal operations delivered through Blackstone’s India Center of Excellence. The role sits within the Legal & Compliance function and is responsible for overseeing the delivery of legal operational support for global Legal stakeholders.

This role is designed for a qualified attorney with prior law firm experience who brings strong legal judgment alongside operational leadership. Operating in a global, matrixed environment, the position partners closely with senior in‑house counsel and external law firms to support high‑quality, well‑controlled, and scalable legal operations.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior leadership and accountability for legal operations delivered through the India Center of Excellence in support of global Legal teams.

  • Lead and develop legal operations leaders and teams within the India Center of Excellence, supporting areas such as corporate secretarial, legal transactional support, litigation support, fund formation support, and related legal activities.

  • Partner with senior in‑house counsel and external law firms to align on priorities, capacity, and service expectations.

  • Ensure consistent delivery standards, quality, and legal rigor across legal operational activities.

  • Serve as a senior offshore escalation point for complex legal operational, delivery, and risk‑related matters.

  • Translate legal priorities into clear operating plans, balancing efficiency and standardization with jurisdictional, regulatory, and practice‑specific requirements.

  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks, service level expectations, performance metrics, and escalation mechanisms for legal operations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, automation, and operating model enhancements.

  • Ensure strong controls, documentation, and audit readiness across all legal operational activities.

  • Provide leadership coverage across global time zones as required.

Qualifications

Blackstone seeks professionals who demonstrate sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and a consistent record of achievement.

The successful candidate must have:

Required

  • Qualified attorney, admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.

  • Prior law firm experience, preferably with exposure to transactional, funds, corporate, or litigation matters.

  • 15+ years of post‑qualification experience, including leadership roles within legal operations, in‑house legal teams, or professional services environments.

  • Demonstrated experience leading large, offshore, or shared‑services teams supporting legal functions.

  • Strong understanding of legal workflows, law firm standards, and in‑house legal operations.

  • Proven experience partnering effectively with senior in-house counsel and external law firms in a global environment.

  • Experience establishing governance frameworks, performance metrics, and operational reporting.

  • Sound legal judgment with a results‑oriented execution mindset and strong risk awareness.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
