NewForce, a program of Generation WV, is currently seeking industry professionals to serve as mentors for various aspects of our programming:
- Cohort Mentors serve as career mentors for current trainees, assisting NewForce staff with career development tasks such as resume and cover letter feedback, mock interviews, and professional development planning. Serving a 6-week term in September and October 2025, mentors can expect a commitment of no more than 5 hours per week.
- NewForce Insights Mentors serve as industry/subject matter consultants for our NewForce Insights team. Insights is a team of four recent program graduates participating in a 3-month project extension. The goal of this extension is to provide data insights for Generation WV and its partners while also providing additional project experience for team members. Insights Mentors can expect a commitment of about 2 hours per week. The next Insights Cohort will begin in December 2025 and continue through March 2026.
- Level Up Mentors serve as professional mentors for NewForce alumni participating in the Level Up program. Level Up is NewForce's alumni engagement and professional development program that aims to provide program alumni with additional tools and resources to continue building their careers post-NewForce. Level Up cohorts alternate content between technical skills and professional skills based on alumni and industry demand. Level Up Mentors can expect a commitment of about 3 hours per week (meeting + prep time) during the 8-week Level Up session. Upcoming Level Up sessions are scheduled for August/September 2025, February/March 2026, and May/June 2026.
Cohort Mentors:
- Industry experience in data analytics, software development, business intelligence, etc.
- Experience as a hiring manager or with the recruiting/hiring process is highly sought after for this role
NewForce Insights Mentors:
- Expertise with any of the following tools: Power BI, Tableau, Salesforce, SQL, Python
Level Up Mentors:
- Knowledge of and experience with software development career track
- Previous experience mentoring junior developers would be ideal
In addition to your service to the profession, participation as a mentor also includes:
- Direct access to highly-skilled, job-ready junior software developers and/or data analysts. Given the wraparound services provided as part of NewForce, these professionals bring the technical, career, and project management skills necessary to accel in their roles.
- Modest stipends may be available to mentors based on a fixed number of hours and hourly rate.
