Rive is a new way to build production-ready UI and graphics — with rich interactivity and state-driven animation. We're on a mission to make hard-coded graphics a thing of the past with a new general-purpose graphics format for all types of software and Ul. We’ve seen tremendous organic growth over the last few years. Our innovative customers include tech giants, game studios, consumer apps with millions of users… there are even Rive pixels in space! 

Rive is looking for an experienced Design Engineer ( a.k.a design technologist, creative technologist) to join our team. Given that Rive is a new type of design tool, there's a lot of opportunity to define and shape entirely new tools and ways of working. We have some unique and complex problems to solve. 

As a designer this is a really exciting opportunity to create tools for other designers while being creative in truly new ways. You’ll contribute to redefining the workflows and mindsets of our peers. You’ll contribute to new and existing features, and bring lessons learned to help us define our design system and processes as we grow.

What you'll do

• Contribute to bringing new features to the Rive Editor — shaping the tools our users interact with daily.
• Iterate on existing tools to expand their feature set and improve the user experience.
• Work alongside software engineers to define and implement how a feature is presented and interacted with by the user.
• Define user workflows that aim to simplify complex tasks, while adhering to our existing patterns.
• Own the implementation of features from concept to production. Implement the UI while the engineering team implements the API and infrastructure.
• Contribute to the development of a formal design system and general design processes as we scale.

What you will bring

• The skills of an experienced Designer who can code and build, or an Engineer who can design.
• Must have prior UI experience with a complex product with the ability to think through complex features (a design or engineering product is highly desirable).
• Experienced with UI frameworks across any format or language, with a willingness to transfer those skills to Dart/Flutter.
• Passionate about delivering exceptional user experiences, particularly in the context of designer/developer tools.
• Ability to self-manage, with prior experience seeing projects and features through from conception to implementation.
• Experience with modern product design tools, such as Figma.
• A portfolio that highlights your clean design aesthetic.
• Ideally some familiarity or experience with Rive.
• Prior experience working in a startup or small nimble team. 

Location: This role is ideally based in San Francisco (hybrid), but we’re open to exceptional candidates across North America (remote) and London, UK (hybrid).

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of their right to work in the U.K. or U.S. prior to commencing employment. We are unable to sponsor or transfer employment Visas at this time.

Compensation and benefits: We offer a remote work environment, comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage as well as stock options. Salary range: $175-$200k. Compensation may depend on the level of experience and geographic location.
