CNS Undergraduate Intern-Middlebury Students (Summer 2026 C91307)

To provide Middlebury College undergraduates with an opportunity to study issues related to nonproliferation and disarmament. Interns will also conduct independent research projects to strengthen their research and analytical skills. 

This position is compensated at the Level A rate on the MIIS student wage scale paying $16.95 per hour.

Core Responsibilities:

  • ‚Äã‚Äã‚Äã‚ÄãContribute to CNS research projects in the areas of nonproliferation, disarmament, and arms control. 
  • ‚ÄãConduct independent research on nonproliferation topics under the guidance of CNS experts. 
  • ‚ÄãAttend lectures and training sessions presented by CNS specialists to deepen understanding of nonproliferation issues. 
  • ‚ÄãSupport data collection, analysis, and synthesis for research outputs as assigned. 
  • ‚ÄãAssist in preparing written materials such as reports, briefings, or presentations related to ongoing projects. 
  • ‚ÄãAssist CNS experts in promoting nonproliferation and disarmament issues through social media and online tools, with a focus on outreach to younger audiences. 
  • ‚Äã‚ÄãMust be enrolled full-time at Middlebury College. 
  • ‚ÄãDemonstrated interest in nonproliferation, disarmament, and arms control issues. 
  • ‚ÄãInterest in international peace and security and social justice topics. 
  • ‚ÄãOpen to all majors; students studying geology or STEM fields (including natural, physical, or computer sciences) are encouraged to apply. 
  • ‚ÄãPreferred: Completion of sophomore year by the program start date. 
  • ‚ÄãKnowledge of international security topics is a plus. 
  • ‚ÄãProficiency in a foreign language preferred. 

CNS provides a range of research opportunities with various funding sources.  Individuals hired to work under Federal Contracts containing the FAR 52.222-54 clause will be subject to E-Verify.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
