High Level Job Description:

The Director of Operations Medical Office is a senior executive leader responsible for architecting, operationalizing, and scaling the Medical Office as a high-performing, globally integrated enterprise function within Philips. This role partners directly with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to translate clinical and medical strategy into enterprise-wide operational excellence, driving disciplined execution, organizational maturity, and measurable business and patient impact.

As a member of the Medical Office Leadership Team, this role operates at the intersection of strategy, operations, and transformation ensuring that Medical Office priorities are executed with speed, quality, and scalability, aligned with Philips’ enterprise objectives. The Director of Operations leads a group of enterprise PMO, Business Excellence, and Medical Office capability team members. 

The Director of Operations is a critical enabler of Philips’ evolution into a more mature, execution-focused, and scalable MedTech leader. By establishing a best-in-class operating model and driving disciplined execution, this role ensures that medical and clinical strategies translate into tangible outcomes, accelerating innovation, strengthening compliance, and ultimately improving patient care at global scale.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Operational Leadership and Execution Excellence

  • Partners with CMO and leadership team ensuring translation of Medical Office strategy into executable, enterprise-wide operating plan, in line with the organization mission and goals
  • Leads and drives end-to-end execution of critical Medical Office priorities, ensuring alignment with regulatory, clinical, and quality system requirements inherent to the MedTech environment
  • Establish enterprise-level visibility into execution risks, dependencies, and operational vulnerabilities, ensuring proactive mitigation
  • Establish and enforce a high-performance operating cadence, including planning, execution tracking, performance management, and impact measurement. This includes MO leadership team meetings, offsite, QBR
  • Define execution standards, including portfolio governance, prioritization frameworks, and performance KPIs.

Operating Model Transformation and PMO Maturity

  • Mature Philips’ Medical Office and allocate Project Management and enabling support to accelerate execution of key priorities for maximum impact
  • Lead the maturation of portfolio and program management disciplines, embedding standardized methodologies, governance, and performance metrics.
  • Build scalable infrastructure (tools, processes, data insights) to enable predictable, transparent, and data-driven execution.

Strategic Portfolio and Program Leadership

  • Oversee a portfolio of high-impact, cross-functional programs critical to the Medical Office
  • Ensure rigorous prioritization and alignment of initiatives with enterprise value drivers, including innovation, clinical impact, compliance, and growth.
  • Drive accountability for outcomes, ensuring initiatives deliver measurable results across quality, cost, speed, and patient impact dimensions.

Cross-Functional Integration and Enterprise Influence

  • Act as the central integrator between CMO/ Medical Office Leadership team and the Medical Office operational execution working across BUs, regions and functions
  • Role models and champions Medical Office transformation initiatives in line with Philips enterprise priorities
  • Break down organizational silos and ensure seamless execution of enterprise priorities across a highly matrixed global organization.
  • Leads through influence, builds relationships, facilitates key project meetings and effectively communicates/reports out timely decision-making and strategic alignment.
  • Represent Medical Office execution in enterprise governance forums and leadership discussions.

Capability Building & Organizational Maturity

  • Develop and scale operational, program management, and business excellence capabilities across the Medical Office.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and performance transparency.
  • Embed best practices, standardization, and knowledge sharing across global teams.

Executive Governance & Communication

  • Provide key support in preparation of executive materials for Board and senior leadership forums (BoM, ExCo, PLT, CEO engagements).
  • Establish clear, data-driven reporting on execution progress, risks, and outcomes.
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and data-driven communication of performance, enabling transparency and informed decision-making.

The CMO may delegate other duties as required.

Experience and Capabilities

- 10+ years of experience in MedTech, life sciences, healthcare technology, or similarly regulated industries, this includes experience with managing teams and cross-functional projects

- Medical Office expertise working in a functional area within Philips

- Deep understanding of clinical, regulatory, and product lifecycle environments within MedTech

- Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, clinical/regulatory environments, and healthcare industry dynamics

- Ability to set strategic priorities and manage complex cross-function/organizational plans, drive, track and report execution progress.

- Experienced in driving change in matrix organizations and able to manage large and complex operations and effectively develop and lead programs and projects

- Influential leadership with excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills to motivate and energize cross functional team members to achieve organizational goals.

- Strong problem-solving, and analytical skills, able to facilitate discussions among groups with diverse technical expertise, and progress decisions on complex issues

- Strong communication skills, professional presence, and ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels from board to front line team members.

- Experience interpreting and administering policies and procedures sufficient to administer, discuss, resolve, and explain them to staff and other constituencies.

- Experienced working effectively to meet deadlines and agility to adjust to changing priorities

Education and Qualifications

- Advanced degree (MBA, MSc, PhD, MD, or equivalent) in business, healthcare, life sciences, or a related field

- Formal training or certification in program/portfolio management or operational excellence (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma) preferred
