International SOS Government Medical Services is seeking an experienced Chief Medical Officer to provide clinical leadership and oversight within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment supporting U.S. government personnel in Iraq. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-quality patient care operations, mentor clinical teams, and help ensure safe, effective healthcare delivery in a fast-paced international setting.

You will play a key leadership role across primary care, urgent care, and emergency response services while collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, behavioral health professionals, pharmacy, laboratory, and public health teams.

Position Overview

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for the overall clinical direction, medical oversight, and leadership of healthcare operations for the project site. This position supports the delivery of comprehensive outpatient and urgent medical care for U.S. government employees and contractors while ensuring compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and operational readiness expectations.

The CMO provides direct patient care, supports emergency stabilization efforts, oversees clinical staff, and promotes quality-driven healthcare practices in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for healthcare providers and medical operations across project clinics
  • Deliver comprehensive patient care including primary care, urgent care, emergency stabilization, preventive health services, vaccinations, and health education
  • Support care delivery across a broad clinical scope including family medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, ENT, pulmonary, cardiovascular, orthopedic, ophthalmologic, neurological, psychological, and gastrointestinal concerns
  • Manage limited chronic care services for preexisting, diagnosed, and previously treated conditions
  • Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurses, behavioral health, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, and public health teams to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Participate in emergency response activities, patient stabilization, and MASCAL exercises
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, training requirements, regulatory standards, and organizational policies
  • Support continuous quality improvement, clinical readiness, and operational excellence initiatives

Qualifications

Requirements & Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine required
  • Current unrestricted physician license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
  • Current ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certifications required
  • Minimum 5 years of recent clinical experience, including at least 6 months within the past year
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to meet credentialing, compliance education, and onboarding requirements, including Joint Commission-related standards
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card holder with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government MRPT security clearance
  • Valid U.S. passport with at least 18 months remaining prior to expiration and ability to relocate to Iraq for the duration of the assignment
  • Ability to meet pre-deployment medical screening requirements and perform duties involving prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting healthcare services on military or government-supported sites
  • Previous leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Experience practicing in high-acuity, operational, or international healthcare environments
