Repsol is seeking an experienced Process Safety professional from the Oil & Gas industry to join our Safety & Environment Excellence Center. This role supports process safety management programs in line with Repsol’s E&P Hazard Management Procedure and will be the focal point for Process Safety in Repsol's Eagle Ford Asset.

This role is best suited for a seasoned Process Safety Engineer or Specialist with a strong background in upstream oil & gas operations, particularly in unconventional assets like shale or tight oil. The ideal candidate is:

  • Experienced in Process Safety Management (PSM) and familiar with OSHA regulations, API RP754, and international safety standards.
  • Skilled in hazard identification and risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, and QRA.
  • Proficient in barrier management, including defining Major Accident Hazards (MAH), Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs), and performance standards.
  • Comfortable working in both field and corporate environments, with the ability to travel monthly to a field location and engage in hands-on assurance activities.
  • Adept at using digital safety tools like PowerBI, Synergi, Enablon, and PHAWorks.
  • A collaborative communicator who can train, coach, and influence cross-functional teams on process safety principles.
  • Preferably bilingual in Spanish, with intermediate fluency to support diverse teams and contractors.
  • Holds or is pursuing recognized process safety certifications, such as:
    • Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPS – AIChE)
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • NEBOSH Certificate in Process Safety Management
    • API Process Safety Certification

The position can be based out of the field office in Three Rivers, TX or the corporate office in The Woodlands, TX with monthly travel to the field required (approximately 1 week per month, residing in field camp housing).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement process safety management and barrier management programs, including defining Major Accident Hazards (MAH), identifying safety barriers (SECEs, critical tasks/processes), supporting the generation of performance standards, and monitoring the health of the barriers.
  • Coordinate risk studies and risk assessments, facilitate PHA studies, HAZOPs, HAZIDs.
  • Endorse risk assessments for Management of Change processes, monitor MoC process and follow up KPIs.
  • Focal point for Operational Risk Assessment.
  • Participate in Asset Reviews/Audits and Quality Assurance/Quality Control events.
  • Assist in classification of process safety incidents according to API RP754, estimation of losses of primary containment.
  • Support the PSM Coordinator with tasks for ensuring compliance with PSM OSHA regulations.
  • Facilitation of incident investigation with 5-whys, Tripod Lite, Tripod Beta, identification of causes and recommending corrective measures.
  • Prepare process safety educational/communication content and training materials.
  • Provide process safety training and support to various levels of the organization.
  • Perform field assurance functions, such as auditing permit-to-work and safety critical processes.
  • Support S&E processes for Supply Chain, including HSE evaluations of contractors and proposals in tender processes, definition of contract risk, and HSE requirements to be included in contracts. 

Common tools to be used by this position include: PowerBI, Synergi, Enablon PTW electronic tool, Enablon MoC electronic tool, PHAWorks, ISNetworld

Minimum Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the US.
  • 2 or 4 year college degree related to safety or process engineering, or a high school diploma combined with 10+ years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of college degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of oil and gas industry, preferably in upstream/unconventionals.
  • Practical understanding of process plant design and operation, preferably oil and gas.
  • Proficiency in process hazard identification and risk assessment techniques (e.g., HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, QRA).
  • Knowledge of process safety systems (SIS, ESD, F&G, Blow Down) and safety principles for hazardous chemicals.
  • Familiarity with international process safety codes, regulations, and practices.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management Systems and asset integrity/reliability.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license for field travel
  • Preference for bilingual Spanish speaking with intermediate fluency

Process Safety Certifications, Preferred: such as

  • Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPS – AIChE)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) Certificate
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Process Safety Management
  • API Process Safety Certification


Location: Three Rivers, TX (Field Office) or The Woodlands, TX (US Corp Office); Houston-based candidates should be available to spend 1 week/month in Three Rivers field office.
