General Summary:

This is a six-month paid Co-Op position responsible for completing assigned work items in a timely manner and ensuring high-quality service to business partners. This role will focus on transforming data into actionable business insights through advanced analytics and data science techniques. The individual will participate in project work primarily within the Finance Analytics team, with direction and review by a manager. The individual is expected to take initiative in identifying and executing approaches for analysis to support the assigned projects.

The Co-Op will be embedded within the Finance Analytics team, a group focused on delivering strategic insights through data-driven solutions. The team leverages tools such as Python, SQL, and Tableau to support financial decision-making and operational efficiency. The selected candidate will work on Python-forward projects, contributing to project planning, dashboard development, and data analysis using TeraData SQL and other platforms. The role includes both independent work and collaboration with cross-functional partners.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal partners to understand business questions and identify available data sources.
  • Extract, transform, and analyze data using tools such as Python, SQL, and Alteryx.
  • Build dashboards and visualizations using Tableau and other BI tools.
  • Apply statistical, simulation, and data mining methods to address business questions.
  • Communicate results clearly and contribute to implementation strategies.
  • Provide programming support for analytical projects and process automation.
  • Participate in project planning and documentation efforts.
  • Operate as a team player, including backing up peers, constructively addressing conflict, and giving/receiving feedback.
  • Adhere strictly to privacy and data governance guidelines.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or as opportunities arise.

Job Specifications

  • Must be enrolled at Northeastern University; preferred majors include Business Intelligence, Data Science, or other quantitative fields with a finance focus.
  • Prefer satisfactory completion of 2 years of college coursework.
  • Required GPA of 3.0 in major or overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Strong portfolio in Python; experience with R is acceptable for exceptional candidates.
  • Experience with dashboard development and GitHub project work is highly valued.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and asking for help when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical depth with practical decision-making.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Tableau, and SQL; experience with Alteryx and Python libraries such as Pandas and scikit-learn preferred.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must complete a satisfactory background check to be hired.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm).

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
