A Patient Care Support Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The Patient Care Support Nurse assists with the coordination of human, fiscal, and environmental resources utilizing effective leadership skills congruent with UCMC values and the Department of Nursing's Strategic Plan. The PCSN is responsible for collaborating with the multidisciplinary team in facilitating and expediting patient throughput including admissions, transfers, and discharges. The PCSN is also responsible for supporting staff RNs in the clinical care area, as needed, with clinical skills, patient care, and other tasks. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assures excellence in patient care through prompt and thoughtful assistance to patients and families utilizing the principles of patient and family-centered care.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills by participating in a changing environment, being supportive, cooperative, and assisting with activities at the unit and Care Center level
  • Serves as clinical expert, role model and resource to colleagues and others by using evidence based clinical practice principles.
  • Works collaboratively with other patient care and multidisciplinary team members to provide patient centered care. 
  • Incorporates cost effective measures into practice to assure proper use of time, supplies, and personnel.
  • Performs other patient care related duties as assigned (assists in providing coverage for skin care team activities)

 

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing.
    • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program
  • Current RN Illinois license
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Active PALS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • 2-5 years of inpatient nursing experience in Comer/Peds

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN preferred
  • PICU experience
  • Active ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
