The Sr Manager of Payroll is responsible for leading the daily operations of Asurion’s payroll processing and timekeeping primarily for the Philippines but also for Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. The position will ensure payroll processing is compliant with all applicable in country requirements as well as company rules and regulations. Leader is responsible for managing, coaching and developing a team of ~20 payroll and timekeeping employees. Position must actively drive extensive process improvement both with internal processes and our vendor. The leader must also establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with internal customers, other support functions (such as HR, IT, Legal, Accounting), and third-party vendors. Leader will create the vision and corresponding strategies, systems, processes, resources and metrics for payroll processing and timekeeping in these regions.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Lead and oversee processing of payrolls and time across the Philippines, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand
- Ensure all payrolls are processed in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency and timeliness in the payroll processes
- Proactively monitor and maintain internal controls
- Oversee payroll processing of complex transactions such as stock option activity, numerous bonus programs, and other specialized transactions
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of year-end tax processing, including reconciliation and completion of the BIR forms.
- Identify and implement controls to improve and standardize payroll processes. Partner with HR, IT (HRIS), Tax, Legal, and other business units to address new opportunities and challenges
- Maintain knowledge of and implement appropriate payroll best practices in all regions
- Champion and support various process improvement initiatives and innovations, including major system implementations, vendor selection and innovative cross-functional solutions
- Prioritize projects and initiatives based on internal control risks, pay back/savings, resources and other deliverables
- Ensure the team is responding to inquiries and resolving pay and time issues in a timely manner, with quality and excellent customer service. Ensure tracking, reporting, and readouts are in place.
- Implement new company offerings, benefit enrollment, and support various data gathering requirements (compensation statements, bonus cycle, workers' compensation insurance audits, etc.). Manage changes to update payroll accordingly and provide feedback to ensure appropriate recording and reporting.
- Lead a large team of ~20 employees across payroll and timekeeping. Provide direct leadership/feedback/coaching, set clear and measurable objectives, support career development and cross-skilling, make hiring decisions, and ensure the highest levels of quality.
- Managing deliverables and meetings across multiple time zones in the Philippines, East Asia and the United States
Qualifications Required:
- Experience:
- 8+ years of managing the payroll function and processes in the Philippines in an exempt/non-exempt environment (includes taxes, garnishments, benefit withholdings, skill-based premiums, differentials, gross-ups, relocation, stock options, etc.)
- 8+ years managing a large payroll processing team, with responsibility for establishing goals and performance review, defining work distribution, growth and development, and training of the team
- Implementation of new systems or making major upgrades (including vendor analysis, resource planning and management, and task leadership) preferred
- Cross-cultural communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with U.S. counterparts and East Asia teams.
- Experience with managing timekeeping preferred

- Extensive experience and knowledge of the Philippines payroll process and ideally timekeeping

- Proficient with MS Office suite
- Education/Certifications:
- BA/BS in Accounting or Business, or equivalent experience, a plus
- Payroll certification/specialization a plus
