Responsibilities

 

We’re looking for an AVP & Appointed Actuary to join our Actuarial Corporate team. In this role, you'll manage the actuarial valuation function including the calculation and adequacy of reserves, assumption governance, asset/liability matching, projection and evaluation of statutory surplus, cash flow analysis and other financial reporting and analysis across the enterprise’s various insurance and other financial products including domestic and international markets. You'll also advise senior management on actuarial assumptions and methodologies in determining appropriate courses of action, handle state insurance matters, filings, and other studies and research as necessary ensuring compliance with applicable state, federal, and country regulations and apply professional standards of the American Academy and the Society of Actuaries in their work activities.

  • Serve as the appointed actuary directing the actuarial valuation function including the calculation and adequacy of reserves, assumption governance, asset/liability matching, projection and evaluation of statutory surplus, cash flow analysis and other financial reporting and analysis across the enterprise’s various insurance and other financial products including domestic and international markets. Handle state insurance matters, filings, and other studies and research as necessary ensuring compliance with applicable state, federal, and country regulations. Apply professional standards of the American Academy and the Society of Actuaries in work activities.
  • Develop professional staff through training, management of work activities, and performance reviews. Provide resource planning for current and future needs of the actuarial function.
  • Advise senior management on actuarial assumptions and methodologies providing input to strategic planning. Interact with senior management business units and corporate management regarding impact on business. Participate in developing product investment strategy.
  • Advise on regulatory advocacy and/or represent the company through serving on professional or industry committees, dealing with vendors or making customer presentations.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.

 

 

Qualifications

  • College graduate or equivalent, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), and a member in good standing of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA) required; 15 years of experience in the actuarial field is preferred
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required
  • In-depth knowledge of area of actuarial specialty and broad knowledge of several areas (i.e., life and annuities, ALM, risk management)
  • Must maintain actuarial continuing education requirements as specified by the AAA
  • Strong communication skills and management skills are required

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$205000 - $277000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
