Reporting to the President Global Products and Solutions, the Vice President, Manufacturing Operations will have responsibility for JCI’s integrated network of manufacturing facilities & the global logistics and distribution functions across the enterprise. This executive will leverage his/her extensive experience from having led complex networks (including contract manufacturing partners) to help achieve performance at target cost and quality as JCI transforms its operations to meet growing customer demands. S/he will play a key role in managing through the inherent ambiguity and complexity of a large-scale, global organization, and leverage his/her past experiences to help drive manufacturing and logistics excellence across the business to achieve and deliver on JCI’s growth objectives.
The Vice President, Manufacturing Operations will establish the strategies, best practices, and tools that create a world-class, lean manufacturing organization. S/He will develop and grow talent within the organization, ensuring current and future leaders are prepared to meet business and customer needs as well as help implement the manufacturing strategies across the world. JCI is transforming into a more tech-enabled, solutions-oriented business. The manufacturing organization’s ability to anticipate and respond quickly to customer needs is essential to the success of the company. Therefore, leadership has decided to give the “privilege of focus” to an experienced operations leader to oversee JCI’s global make and deliver operations.
The Vice President, Manufacturing Operations will be a key member of the executive leadership team and is expected to be an important contributor to the strategic direction of the company at enterprise level. S/He will have the presence to be effective with the Board, external stakeholders and other functional c-suite partners as the face of JCI manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Plant Operations Leadership: Develop and execute the strategies necessary to lead a complex, multi-site, manufacturing organization in excess of 40 sites with more than 15,000 team members. Lead and mentor a team of operations leaders organized by product line and functional reports in manufacturing operations, manufacturing engineering, advanced manufacturing, materials management and planning. Drive a culture of performance to achieve service level commitment to customers. Set standards and performance metrics in support of the organizational goals and objectives. Drive a safety culture and implement new and innovative techniques to provide a safe working environment partnering with EH&S and Quality.
Enterprise Logistics: Lead the contracting and use of all global transportation services to ensure the efficient movement, global trade compliance, warehousing and distribution of all client solutions and products globally, while managing a diverse, global network of internal and 3rd party stakeholders, including multimodal enterprise logistics providers. Transform and catalyze improvement in the effectiveness and productivity of the warehousing and distribution network. Reduce working capital employed by maximizing logistics efficiency and optimizing the warehousing footprint.
Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement & Performance Excellence: Drive company-wide operational metrics and dashboards – ensuring the entire network is operating at the highest levels of effectiveness and performance. Leverage Lean Six Sigma and other continuous improvement tools and techniques to improve organizational performance. Partner with business and functional leaders to identify areas of opportunity, ensuring the prioritization of those with the highest operational and/or financial impact. Drive training and programs that influence the organizational mindset of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Drive strategic application of 80/20 manufacturing to streamline operations across the product portfolio, reducing complexity and focusing resources on high-volume, high-margin product families
Oversee operational footprint optimization, consolidating facilities and suppliers around strategic 80/20 priorities to improve efficiency, lead times, and cost structure.
Partner with R&D, supply chain and commercial team to align mfg priorities
Drive advanced mfg and operations excellence initiatives, leveraging automation, digitization manufacturing technologies (et IIOT, predictive analytics) and lean/80/20 methodologies to enhance productivity, agility and cost competitiveness across global operations.
Lead the transformation of legacy operations through advanced manufacturing strategies, focusing scalable automation, data visibility and cross plant standardization.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree (MBA or technical discipline) strongly preferred.
15+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, including at least 7–10 years in senior executive roles (VP, SVP, or President level)
Proven ability to develop and execute manufacturing strategies aligned with corporate objectives, driving operational excellence, cost efficiency, and scalability.
Deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies; experience implementing ERP/MES systems and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Demonstrated success in budget management, P&L responsibility, and achieving financial targets while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Familiarity with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance; ability to integrate these into operational strategy.
Exceptional ability to lead large, multi-site teams, foster a high-performance culture, and manage organizational transformation during growth or restructuring.
Superior negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills for collaboration with boards, suppliers, and cross-functional teams globally
