Job Description :

Role Purpose

The Head of News Video is a senior leadership position responsible for the end-to-end video strategy of The Sun US. You will lead a fast-paced team of producers and editors to ensure that The Sun is the first and best destination for breaking news video, trending viral content, and original news programming. Your goal is to turn daily news into "must-watch" visual content that drives billions of views across our website, YouTube, and social platforms.

Key Responsibilities

● Oversee the daily video news agenda, making lightning-fast decisions on which stories to prioritize for maximum impact and engagement.

● Execute a video-first strategy focused on two pillars: Breaking News (short-form, high-velocity) and Original Programming (mid-to-long form news shows and documentaries).

● Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of video producers, editors, and multimedia journalists. Manage rotas and resources to ensure 24/7 coverage of major US events. ● Tailor content for specific platforms—optimizing for the "Sun voice" on TikTok/Reels while building high-retention, searchable content for YouTube.

● Use real-time analytics (e.g., Chartbeat, YouTube Analytics) to pivot strategy, improve retention rates, and maximize monetization opportunities.

● Work closely with the US News Desk, SEO team, and Social Media leads to ensure video is integrated into every major breaking story.

The Ideal Candidate

● 8+ years in a digital newsroom or broadcast environment, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership/management role.

● A "Sun" eye for a story—you know instinctively what will go viral and how to package a complex news event into a compelling 60-second clip or a 10-minute deep dive.

● Expert understanding of Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and modern CMS workflows. You should be as comfortable discussing bitrates as you are editorial ethics.

● Proven ability to remain calm and decisive under the extreme pressure of a 24-hour breaking news cycle.

● A track record of launching successful video series or formats that have demonstrably grown audience loyalty.
