Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

  • A Certified Legal Intern presents guilty pleas, summary hearings, preliminary hearings and various other minor hearings on behalf of the Commonwealth.

  • The Intern also researches legal issues, prepares legal memorandum and assists ADA’s with legal answers and briefs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Supervisor of the Appeals and Legal Services Unit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Hearings 50 %

  • Research and Writing 50%

OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES

  • Observe Court.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have completed at least 2 years of Law School and obtained legal intern certification.       

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Have successfully completed two years of law school, be professional and able to both present minor hearings in court and research and prepare legal memos and other legal answers or briefs with assistance.   

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES               

  • Must be certified to appear in court.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is primarily sedentary in nature. No special physical requirements.
