JOB SUMMARY: SMEK Camp Mentors play a vital role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for students participating in the SMEKplus (Science and Mathematics Extravaganza for Kids plus Engineering) summer camps. Mentors are assigned to a specific group of campers and remain with them throughout the day. Mentors assist with transitions between sessions, guide students to and from lunch, and support camp presenters with hands-on STEM activities. SMEK Mentors act as role models who foster enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while ensuring the smooth flow of the daily camp schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and support an assigned group of students throughout camp hours.
Take daily attendance and ensure student accountability.
Lead students to and from scheduled sessions, lunch, and other camp activities.
Distribute snacks and monitor student well-being.
Assist presenters with activities, materials, and classroom management.
Provide guidance and positive behavior support as needed.
Monitor and assist during student pick-up at the end of the day.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging camp experience for all participants.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the STEM Outreach Coordinator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional supervision is exercised over SMEK camp students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program or completion of a bachelor’s degree is required.
Must be self-directed.
Capable of working in a team as well as taking on and completing tasks independently.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
