JOB SUMMARY: This classification exists to prepare an entry level trainee for general duty police work. Employees in this class will be required to attend a department authorized police academy for training in community relations, patrol methods, traffic control, criminal and traffic law, causes of criminality, courtroom procedures, investigating methods, fingerprinting and other crime prevention and law enforcement topics through classroom training, field observation and scenario training. Upon successful completion of the police academy, employees are promoted to the class of Police Officer. Police Recruits report to the Saginaw Valley State University Police Sergeant and the police academy training Staff. The successful candidate is always expected to diligently follow the Mission and Vision of the Saginaw Valley State University Police Department as well as the Core Values of the University.
