Wellstar Health System is excited to announce opportunities to join our newly established West Diagnostic Float Pool, supporting a variety of imaging services across our facilities.
We are seeking dedicated and skilled professionals in the following area: Certified Mammography Tech
In this role, you’ll perform mammography procedures independently using sound judgment, technical expertise, and compassionate communication. You’ll be responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images in compliance with department protocols and all regulatory standards, including ACR and MQSA.
Patient Care & Imaging
Perform mammography procedures per physician order and departmental guidelines
Confirm proper patient identification and verify clinician orders using two unique identifiers
Obtain relevant patient history and assess for contraindications
Ensure patient dignity, privacy, and comfort during procedures
Evaluate images for quality and completeness before releasing patients
Use critical thinking and clinical judgment during all procedures
Support emergency response efforts and assist across imaging modalities as needed
Maintain sterile technique and follow pre-/post-procedural care protocols where applicable
Follow all RBAC (Read Back and Confirm) practices when receiving verbal orders
Equipment Operation
Operate mammography equipment safely and effectively, ensuring proper technique and dose optimization
Perform and document required ACR/MQSA quality control tests (e.g., phantom, repeat analysis, compression)
Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment in accordance with infection control and FDA guidelines
Report equipment issues promptly to supervisors or service providers
Communication & Education
Use AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, Thank) to communicate with patients and families
Clearly explain procedures to reduce anxiety and ensure patient cooperation
Address patient questions or escalate them as appropriate prior to imaging
Participate in training and orientation of new team members
Maintain accurate, legible, and timely documentation
Read and respond to daily communications and complete required training without reminders
Quality Assurance
Maintain a first-time image acceptance rate of 95% or higher
Ensure accurate labeling, orientation, and documentation of images in PACS and RIS
Maintain records in compliance with ACR Accreditation and MQSA standards
Use and understand mammography tracking systems and EQUIP program requirements
Department Operations
Maintain a clean and organized mammography suite; restock supplies as needed
Assist with patient positioning, transport, and table transfers
Perform daily charge capture for procedures rendered
Apply appropriate shielding and utilize immobilization devices
Monitor and document patient follow-up data
Collaborate with coworkers to ensure continuity of care and optimal workflow
Maintain productivity standards and communicate proactively with supervisors
Education (Required):
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program required.
Certifications (Required):
ARRT-R (Radiography) required.
ARRT-M (Mammography) required.
BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association required.
Experience (Required):
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital setting required.
Minimum 3 years of mammography experience in a hospital setting required.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Professional, reliable, and flexible work ethic
In-depth knowledge of anatomy, pathology, patient positioning, and radiation safety
Competency in all aspects of mammography and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
