Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

SVSU invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology to begin July 1, 2026.   This is a 9-month appointment with spring/summer teaching possible. The position involves teaching undergraduate Kinesiology courses, advising students, conducting collaborative and independent research, and participating in service activities. The teaching responsibilities may include theoretical, practicum, and laboratory classes ranging from introductory to senior-level undergraduate courses within the degree program of Health Education, Physical Education K-12. This role emphasizes the preparation of future K-12 Physical Education and Health Educators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Kinesiology or related field with evidence of scholarly activity. (ABD with a minimum of a master’s plus fifteen semester hours will be considered for assistant professor rank).
  • Higher education teaching experience or experience teaching health and physical education in primary or secondary settings.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Involvement with professional organizations within Kinesiology, particularly with the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE).
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated experience in Program Assessment, Curriculum Development, and alignment with State and National standards in Health and Physical Education.
  • Advanced credentials such as American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification, National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), and Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), preferred but not required.
