Job Title: Full-Time Faculty: English Language Center -Non CFS Visiting Faculty (3 positions)

Position Start Date: August 17, 2026

Required Degree: MA in TESOL or closely related field.  Recent graduates in TESOL from the BYU Dept. of Linguistics will be given the highest priority (typically graduated in the last three years); high language proficiency in English; and commitment to teaching English as a second language.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience: One to two years of part-time teaching with an established record of excellence in the classroom (three to four years part-time teaching experience preferred).  Experience with curriculum and materials development, research, evaluation, and mentoring preferred.  

Duties/Expectations: 

Teaching Responsibilities:

•       Teaches up to four classes per semester depending upon other assignments

•       Models excellence in planning, teaching, and student evaluation

•       Provides leadership and innovation in teaching

•       Stays abreast of advances in teaching and strives for professional development

Administrative Responsibilities: 

•       Serves as a member of the ELC Executive Council and participates in decisions regarding the daily operation of the Center

•       Supervises one of the following skill areas:  Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Grammar

•       As a skill area supervisor, coordinates the orientation of teachers and the implementation of the curriculum for the assigned skill area

•       Assists in the testing, placement, and orientation of students and the organization of class schedules

•       Observes and mentors part-time teachers

•       Provides leadership and support for part-time teachers

•       Assists in the training and development of student teachers in the TESOL program

Program Development Responsibilities:

•       Participates in the on-going review of the Center's program and curriculum

•       Assists in the selection and development of instructional and assessment materials for assigned skill area

•       Participates in the on-going review of testing and evaluation

•       Works with the faculty in the Linguistics Department in research relating to the development of curriculum and instruction at the Center
