Duties/Expectations: 

The Department of Biology at Brigham Young University invites applications for a two-year Visiting Faculty position.  We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar to contribute to our graduate curriculum by teaching BIO 560: Population Genetics, and undergraduate courses in the department as needed.

The population genetics course is a core requirement for graduate students in our MS and PhD programs and explores the theoretical foundations and empirical approaches used to study genetic variation in natural populations.  The official course description can be found here: https://gradstudies.byu.edu/bio-560-population-genetics. • Teaching BIO 560 (graduate-level Population Genetics) each Winter semester.
• Teaching four sections per year of undergraduate courses in areas of the candidate’s expertise. These might include introductory biology, plant and animal biodiversity, ecology, evolutionary biology, and organismal biology courses (BIO 130, BIO 220/230, BIO 350, BIO 420, or any of our upper division ‘ology’ courses). Course assignments will be negotiated in light of departmental needs and the candidate’s interest.
• Contributing to our graduate research program culture by providing mentored research opportunities for undergraduate students, and mentoring graduate students.
• Supporting the university’s mission and engaging constructively with students from diverse backgrounds.
