RN Unit Coordinator – Surgical Unit
Location: Sentara Obici Hospital – Suffolk, VA
Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Coordinator to join our Surgical Unit. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced nurse with strong clinical knowledge, organizational skills, and a passion for supporting both patients and staff in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Position Overview:
The RN Unit Coordinator provides clinical and administrative leadership for the Surgical Unit. This role ensures safe, high-quality patient care, fosters effective teamwork, and serves as a resource for staff, patients, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate daily operations and patient flow within the Surgical Unit
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver excellent patient care
Ensure adherence to hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based practices
Support staff development through coaching, training, and performance feedback
Assist with staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to maintain efficiency
Qualifications:
Current, valid RN license in the state of Virginia
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required
Minimum of 2–3 years of recent acute care nursing experience, with surgical unit experience strongly preferred
Prior leadership, charge nurse, or coordinator experience is a plus
Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
