Technology Surplus Online Sales Supervisor - part-time/28 hours per week

While ensuring operational alignment with institutional policies and industry best practices.

The Technology Online Sales Surplus Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations within BYU’s Technology Surplus program, including Receiving, Data Sanitation, Sales Preparation, eBay operations, and Online Resale. This role supervises student employees, ensures compliance with ITAD standards, maintains accurate inventory records, and drives process improvements that support safety, efficiency, and customer service. The supervisor assists in pricing and logistics planning

What you will be doing in this position

Customer Service

  • Assist online sales customers with item and process inquiries
  • Resolve escalated customer or buyer issues (eBay, etc...)
  • Supervise Operational Activities
  • Ensure that the procedures of our Online Sales areas are being followed and improved.

Train, mentor, and schedule 3+ student employees

  • Monitor workflow from Receiving, Sales Prep, and Online sales/eBay
  • Implement and document operational improvements
  • Ensure quality control of items processed for sale

Market awareness and Pricing

  • Research resale value trends for IT equipment
  • Maintain competitive and compliant pricing strategies
  • Update pricing guidelines for student employees

Inventory

  • Maintain accurate inventory counts in the tracking system
  • Oversee storage space utilization and overflow management
  • Ensure equipment is tagged and categorized correctly, and is easy to locate

Risk aversion and compliance auditing

  • Conduct regular audits of online sales workflows to ensure efficiency and sales compliance.
  • Identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions to minimize operational, logistical, and legal risks.
  • Train student employees in approved eBay and other online sales practices.

Safety practices

  • Enforce warehouse safety policies and proper lifting and storage procedures
  • Perform periodic process, equipment, and storage area safety inspections

What qualifies you for this position

Minimum education/experience required:  

  • High School Diploma with some college, such as an associate’s degree or higher, or 2+ years experience in one or more of the following areas: Warehouse Operations, Inventory, Retail, Online Sales, or Computer management/repair
  • Basic Computer troubleshooting knowledge
  • Experience supervising and training others

 Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business, IT, Supply Chain, etc.)

Pay Grade: 50

 

Typical Starting Pay:  $25.00-$32.50

 

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
