Position Start Date: September 1, 2026
Required Degree: Master’s Degree in Spanish Literature, Language, Culture, Pedagogy, or related field. Bachelor's in Music Education.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: Minimum 1 years' experience teaching Mariachi Band
Duties/Expectations:
Candidate will direct the BYU Mariachi Band, Mariachi Los Pumas, and coordinate performances both on and off campus, which may include daytime and evening events and some travel.
Mariachi rehearsals (classes) are held bi-weekly.
Candidate must have a working knowledge of the traditional mariachi instruments: violin, vihuela, trumpet and guitarrón.
Candidate must possess excellent music sight-reading skills.
The successful candidate will also teach SPAN 321, including additional undergraduate Spanish courses (SPAN 100-, 200-) that balance emphasis on the Spanish language, grammar, conversation, and culture, plus SPAN 119R Mariachi Band.
This position requires the adjunct faculty member to hold office hours to meet with students and to be available via email to communicate with students, faculty, and office staff.
Other duties may include, but are not limited to, attending meetings and trainings with the coordinators of first and second-year instruction, participating in professional development, and any other important events that require the assistance of the adjunct instructor.
Participation in the annual Foreign Language Fair is required.
